~ Kelly, Library Media Specialist Yes, that's correct... the audio recording booth at Lyons is NOW OPEN.
The booth includes:
You can book the audio recording booth online, but don't forget to check out the policy/procedures page too. Happy recording! ~ Kelly, Library Media Specialist You may have heard through the grapevine that Lyons was getting its very own audio recording booth... well, the rumours are right!
However, it's not quite ready just yet. But soon! We are looking to make it available for booking requests as of the end of the month of February. Watch for further news and details as they unfold! When it is available, we will post about it here, on social media, and it will be added to our bookings page. ~ Kelly, Library Media Specialist After a long wait, console gaming is once again available in the Lyons New Media Centre!
All consoles have been combined into one gaming station. Now you can play on the Playstation 3, Playstation 4, XBox 360, XBox One or the Wii, all on the same station! You only have to change the input on the TV if switching from one of the PS or XBox consoles (HDMI) to the Wii (AV) or back. A remote will be checked out to any individual or group who has the gaming station booked for ease of switching back and forth between the various consoles. Instructions are available at the gaming station. You can once again book Gaming Console #1 online up to two weeks in advance, and the bookings are still 2 hours per group per day. Thanks to everyone for their patience while construction occurred in this room, rendering the console gaming inoperable for a time. ~ Kelly, Library Media Specialist As you may know, the Lyons New Media Centre team is available to help you with a variety of media-related issues. But we also have resources available to you 24/7 on our website!
Visit our Tutorials & How-Tos page to access a wide variety of tutorials, how-tos and demonstrations on some of the following topics:
These tutorials have been created by our team to be very specific to software and equipment available to you in the Lyons New Media Centre. And we're working on more! Don't see something covered? Please feel free to make a suggestion at the Help Desk or email us using our contact form. ~ Kelly, Library Media Specialist This is a gentle reminder that the computer workstations in Lyons are for making media. That includes things such as:
It's important to remember that Lyons only has 14 computers (including the 2 in the edit studios) for a campus that now boasts a population of nearly 40,000 people. These computers have very specialized software, such as the Adobe Creative Cloud (you know, like Photoshop, In Design, Dreamweaver, Premiere Pro, etc.), which is only available to everyone on the campus at Lyons. If you're in need of a desk to do math homework, might we suggest having a look at some of the Library's great offerings in study spaces? If you are working in a group, maybe consider booking a group study room! And if you're looking for a place to hook up your laptop, Lyons actually has a laptop bar at the far end of the Centre (along the windows), but Mills also hosts a Laptop Friendly Room on the 3rd floor. And of course, many of the soft seating areas in Lyons have drop-down power cables that hang from the ceiling that you are more than welcome to sit at and plug in! We also have four group-work booths that can be used with a laptop -- you can even connect your laptop to the hanging monitors there! (Ask at the Help Desk for any adapters -- we're working on getting VGA to HDMI! We promise!) If you need to type an essay or use any kind of word processing software, the computers on the 2nd floor have you covered. So, you are welcome to use your laptops at the soft-seating or booths in Lyons, and you can use these ares to chat with friends, do math homework, etc. and then if you're making media, please feel free to use the computers. But be aware if the computer workstations are not being used as intended, you may be asked to move to another location. We have to keep these free for those who need the special software, after all. Thanks for your understanding! |
