Just what is this Lyons place, anyway? (Pronounced "Lions", like the animal.) Let us explain:
Our Culture The Lyons New Media Centre (LNMC) is a vibrant space for the creation and use of modern and classic media in teaching, learning, and research at McMaster University. Lyons offers a special collection of media resources that facilitates teaching and learning. We are a unique space, within the library and on campus, open to all members of the McMaster community to freely access the creative tools to enrich their learning experiences.
Lyons is located on the 4th floor of Mills Library. Taking either elevator #3 or #4 will get you to the lobby directly outside our entrance. Console gaming will be moving out of the gaming room, into room L418 as of today. Room L418 is still in Lyons -- but it is the glass-surrounded room immediately next to the entrance to Lyons. The game boxes can still be found on the wooden shelves that surround this room.
To book time either with console gaming or PC gaming, you still will need to login to our booking system, but you will now find them under "Lyons New Media Centre - Gaming / Rooms". Console gaming will now be found under AV & Console Gaming Room - L418 in the booking schedule. The booking process will remain much the same: book time, show up, pick your console game(s) that you want to play and check in at the Help Desk so the game and controllers can be signed out to you. But a key to the room will also be signed out to you, as this room is a locked room. Gaming PCs will be remaining in the gaming room. This room will be changing in its purpose: not only will the console gaming be located there, but so will the audio-visual equipment (such as blu-ray player, record player, VHS, etc.) from Edit Studios L415 & L416, hopefully later this month. The Edit Studios will be used solely for editing multimedia projects once this move happens. Room L418 will now be known as the AV & Console Gaming Room, L418, and will no longer be available for studying or meetings. Study rooms elsewhere in the libraries can still be booked via the Library study room booking system. IT has reported that they think they managed to resolve the issue with After Effects as of this morning. Sorry for the earlier inconvenience, and if anyone encounters any issues with the software again, please let the person at the Help Desk know asap and we will report it again. Thanks!
We have been having problems with Adobe After Effects on the Lyons computers. IT was made aware of the issue last week, and are investigating as of this morning. More news as it becomes available.
