There has been some confusion over the last few weeks about what kind of equipment we have available in the Lyons New Media Centre and what the rules are around usage of said equipment.
Let's see if we can break it down a bit, shall we?
Yes, we have camera equipment, and there is a big ol' list of the camera stuff you can sign out for 24 hours at a time, as well as another big list of all the camera stuff you could have access to while using the green screen room.
The 24 hour loan camera equipment needs to be booked at least 24 hours in advance, keeping in mind that booking requests are processed Mon-Fri 9:30am-4:30pm. Any requests submitted in the evening or weekend will be submitted on the next weekday that we are open (so, submit on a Friday evening, it will be processed on the Monday).
The green screen room camera equipment just needs to be booked when you submit the room booking request and can be used for the duration of your green screen booking -- within the green screen room. This equipment does not leave Lyons and should only be used in the green screen room.
What we don't have: *
We have a variety of audio-visual equipment ranging from DVD/BluRay players to headphones and condenser mics. Most of the A-V equipment has been installed inside rooms or at different locations within the Centre and cannot be moved. Media players (DVD, BluRay, turntable, cassette player, etc.) are available for use inside our two Edit Studios that can be booked (L415 & L416). Check the A-V equipment list linked to above to see where all such equipment is installed and how to access them.
We also have the following additional equipment in Lyons:
Hopefully this helps you figure out what we have for you to use and what we don't have in the way of various types of equipment. But if there's something missing or you'd like more information that our website doesn't provide, please feel free to email us at media @ mcmaster DOT ca.
* Note: The "What we don't have" lists are based on questions we've been asked in the past.
